Who Am I?

Hi everyone, I'm Cassi Kirkland. I'm from New Lenox, IL, which is a little town south of Chicago that nobody ever knows. I had the childhood where a bunch of kids run around the cul-de-sac outside all the time, and I have a brother and a sister. We got our first puppy, Delilah, about a month before I left for college (they replaced me apparently).
                                                                             She's a cutie.

I'll be a Junior in the fall, and I'm majoring in Cellular & Molecular Biology and Economics. I'm not exactly positive what I want to do after undergrad, but I'm hoping this Fellowship gives me more insight into the research field! I had no experience with research before college, so it was a big culture shock my first year.

When I have free time, I love to read. Since I don't have much time during the school year, I like to catch up during the summer. I also play tennis and constantly have an episode of Gilmore Girls on tv.

One unusual thing about me is probably that I'm volunteering at a farm animal sanctuary this summer. It's called SASHA farms, and they take in farm animals from a multitude of circumstances and give them a peaceful home. We have cows, pigs, sheep, goats, geese, chickens, and even a turkey!
