What?
the community service event, I noticed people really working together as teams to both build the bikes and complete the challenges. The most effective teams had designated roles for every member and there were contributions from all members.
So What?
I did not learn a new skill in particular, but I did rekindle my interest in working with other people to complete a common goal. The experience was different than I expected because it was more focused on the team building aspect than I had thought. It was nice to see people cooperating and listening to everyone pitch their ideas. I wished it would have been more focused on the volunteering aspect though. My group members taught me things about their research and I learned that people have different skill sets and ways of thinking that can be conducive to solving a problem.
Now What?
I think I could apply the collaborative nature of the event to my research. It is important to listen to the ideas of others in a research setting and take advice from people who may know more about a topic than I do. If I had to do the group activities again,I probably would not do anything differently because our group worked quite well together.
