Who Am I

Hello Summer Fellows,
My name is Victoria Rilett, and I am a rising sophomore here at the University of Michigan. I am originally from Linden, Michigan, a small community outside of Flint. I am very passionate about education public policy and hope to spend my undergraduate years pursuing a degree in Organizational Studies with a focus on education initiatives. Eventually, I would like to get my teaching certificate and work to reconcile disparities in urban schools. Hopefully someday I will be able to work my way into the Department of Education and have a more political effect on the education system.
Outside of school and research, I am very interested in creative arts. I spent all four years of high school dancing on my school's team and at a studio. I am pretty well practiced in ballet, hip hop, jazz, pom, and belly dance. I guess the most interesting thing about me would be that I got to dance in the London New Year's Day Parade my senior year. I have also played the piano for about 11 years and the saxophone for 7, so I'm a really big fan of all styles of music. My favorites range from Ella Fitzgerald to Kendrick Lamar, and I will forever love the 90s era of music.
During my first year at U of M, I was a member of the Lloyd Hall Scholars Program, a living learning community for writing and the arts, and have gained a new passion for writing. My goal for the summer is to get through the stack of books that accumulated throughout the school year while also attempting to write some of my own stories. Although the endless journal articles I have been reading aren't has bad as I anticipated, it'll be nice to have a little time to relax and read on the Diag.
