Who Am I?
Hello everyone! My name is Ethan Firestone. I am an upcoming senior here at the University of Michigan. I am doing an honors concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology / premed. After undergrad, I am going to, first, take a gap year and then attend medical school. If I have a choice, I would like to go somewhere either in the Boston-NYC area, Michigan, Northern California, or New Orleans. In the end, I'd like to pursue a career in neurosurgery (specifically the brain). Ever since I was young, I have always been intrigued by the brain (aka the most highly advanced piece of technology we humans have stumbled across in the universe), and I would really like the opportunity to save people's lives. Beyond school, I have many hobbies, including the following: playing hockey, drawing, working with clay, listening to music, exercising (both at the gym and running), hanging out with friends, etc. I also really like the outdoors...even in the middle of winter when it's freezing. In fact, on our "cold" day last semester (the first snow day U of M has had since the 70's) my friend and I braved the -40 degree wind chills and played pond hockey for hours: yes I'm also surprised I didn't get some degree of frost bite. I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, where I attended Elkhorn High School; although, my family permanently moved to Michigan (West Bloomfield area) a few years back. I am actually much happier living here, as my family is originally from the area (my grandparents grew up in Detroit, my mom was born in the city / grew up in West Bloomfield, and now we have returned). As far as an interesting / unusual thing about myself...I don't know if I have anything that sticks out as the number one weirdest thing about me (there are plenty to choose from)...here's one: I'm so flexible that I can put both of my legs behind my head at the same time.
