What? So What? Now What?

During the community service event, I observed a lot of teamwork and communication. It seemed that every  group was talking through each event and working together to complete the task. In my group, there wasn't just one leader and we all seemed to think about the activity and then find a way to finish it. The same thing occurred while building the bike. We all gave our input and tried to assemble the bike correctly.

I didn't really learn a new skill besides how to launch a rubber chicken into a hula hoop and how to adjust the brakes on the bicycle. Before coming to this event, I was very skeptical and was actually upset that we were required to attend. However, after seeing the children with their new bicycles I was very happy that I came and helped these families. One of the student's in my group knew how to build bicycles very well so I learned a few more things about how to build/maintain a bicycle. I also learned a little bit more about pharmacy and other majors from my group members.

One thing that I can definitely use from this experience is communication. In my lab, I never ask questions or speak up for fear of interrupting or annoying one of the lab members. However, after this event I realized just how important my opinion is and that I shouldn't be fearful of sharing my thoughts and ideas.

As for doing things differently, I would split up the group after the first two activities and have half work on the bike and the other half try to complete the activity. This wouldn't allow for much team bonding, but would be a lot more efficient.
