What, So What?, Now What?

Going into the community service event, I was not sure what to expect.  I knew we would be building bikes for patients at Mott's Hospital, but I was not sure much else.  Reflecting back, I guess I can say that I was expecting the event to be more "service" and less "community".  That being said, I really enjoyed the little twist to our volunteering that brought the research community together while help sick kids.
It was interesting to see all the participants changes in attitudes.  At the beginning of the event, a lot of people seemed like they were only there because they had to be, but as the day progressed it seemed like most people started to enjoy themselves.
I met someone in my group who is in a program here to learn how to apply to Medical School during her gap year.  I thought this was interesting, because I am interested in Med School, and did not know that programs like this exist.  I do not think that I can really apply this in my lab, but I am going to look out for programs like the one my group member was in that I can take advantage of myself.
If I had to do the group activities again, I would try to meet more people, because there were a lot of interesting and diverse people at the event.
